Color Me By Words to Know/ Spelling- This is a coloring activity to practice the high frequency words and spelling words of the week. Roll a Spelling Word- You will need a dice for this activity. Students will roll to find out what spelling word to write. They keep going until all squares are filled Vocab Flash Cards- Student practice the vocab words of the week by drawing pictures of the different vocab words. Word Team-Up- This is activity where students practice pairing up word chunks to make the week’s spelling words. Classify and Categorize Number Words- Students practice recognizing and categorizing number words in a cut and paste activity sheet. Lizard Predictions- Students practice making predictions through drawing pictures of their different predictions as they read. Red Lizard Conclusions- This is an adorable craft that pairs nicely with the story and with the comprehension strategy. The Big Race Tri-Fold- Print these sheets front to back. Students fold it like a brochure. Fill it out about the week’s selection Spelling/ Words to Know Practice- Students will read, trace, write, and rainbow write the high frequency words and spelling words. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.2.d Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently occurring irregular words. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.2.e Spell untaught words phonetically, drawing on phonemic awareness and spelling conventions. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. These three standards are addressed in; Roll a Spelling Word, Spelling Practice, and Color Me By Words to Know. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.1.1 Ask and answer questions about key details in a text. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.1.2 Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.1.7 Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events. These standards are addressed in the Tri-Fold. This is also addressed in the craft.
