I’m so thankful for November Activities! It is a time to enjoy the fall weather and football, honor our veterans, remember and learn about the first Thanksgiving, celebrate family traditions, and eat TURKEY! There are so many great November first and second grade activities for you to use with your students to celebrate all month long.
Turkey Trouble, by Wendi Silvano
A favorite read aloud this month is Turkey Trouble, by Wendi J Silvano. This is a funny story about a turkey who will disguise himself as anything to avoid becoming the main course at the farmer’s Thanksgiving table.
Turkey Trouble Book Study
After Reading Turkey Trouble aloud, you can discuss and practice story vocabulary. Have students retell the story by putting in order the sequence of events. When discussing problem and solution, this Turkey Trouble craft is a fun way for students to express what they know and develop a greater understanding of the skill. These are perfect November Activities for first and second grade.
Dive deeper into this text, by having students create a comprehension tri-fold. Students can exhibit their understanding while creating a fun, interactive brochure. These Turkey Trouble Activities are also available in Seesaw and Google for your distance learners.
How to Catch a Turkey, by Adam Wallace
Another great Thanksgiving story is How to Catch a Turkey by Adam Wallace. This silly story is about a turkey running loose in a school right before a Thanksgiving play. This would be an excellent book to compare and contrast with Turkey Trouble.
Veteran’s Day
Teach your students about the importance of honoring the men and women who have served our country. Students will learn about the different branches of the military and how they play a role in keeping our country safe. Check out this fun Thank You, Veteran’s craft that you can create with your students to help them show their appreciation for our veterans.
