Spelling and High Frequency Practice
Color Me By Spelling/ H.F. Word- This is a coloring activity to practice the high frequency words and spelling words of the week.
Roll a Spelling Word- You will need a dice for this activity. Students will roll to find out what spelling word to write. They keep going until all squares are filled
Vocab Flip-Flap- Print these pages back to back. Students fold these pages “hot dog” ways. They fill out the flip flap accordingly. If they are struggling with the definition portion, they can look it up in the glossary at the back of their book.
Sequence of Events Carriage- This is a craft that pairs nicely with the selection of the week, and incorporating the reading comprehension strategy of “Sequence of Events”.
Compare and Contrast Cinderella Stories- Students compare different versions of Cinderella in this Venn Diagram.
My Cinderella Story Writing and Art- These are a sets of sheets for students to write their own version of Cinderella.
Spelling and High Frequency Practice- This is helping practice spelling words and high frequency words. They practice tracing, writing, and rainbow writing the words
Tri-Fold- Print these sheets front to back. Students fold it like a brochure. Fill it out about the week’s selection.
Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
These first two are addressed in the tri-fold and the sequence of events craft.
Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
This is addressed in the spelling and high frequency word activities.
Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
This is addressed in the writing activity.
